Our concert band was performing at the Scottish Concert Band Festival Regional competition in Livingston over the weekend. I am delighted to inform you that they performed beyond their years and walked away with yet another GOLD AWARD! Their performance means that the band have qualified for the national finals at Perth Concert Hall in March.
As always they were outstanding from start to finish and deserve all the plaudits going. Special mention goes to Finn Mason who played his solo at the start of our final piece superbly.
Thanks go to Mr McLean, Mr Hart and Mrs Edgar for travelling with the band and providing outstanding support during, before and after the performance.
Last Friday, 3 of our fifth year pupils were invited to a meeting with the Rotary Club to discuss the Duncanrig Music Department’s recent European tour.
The Club made a very generous donation prior to the trip and the girls were delighted to provide a presentation detailing how their money was spent, how incredible it is to have the opportunity to take part in such wonderful experiences, and express their gratitude on behalf of our School and the Music Department.
The three girls, Brea Jenkins, Heather Gildie and Molly Fairley, along with the Principal Teacher of Music and Drama, Mrs Ramsay met with the Rotary Club on Friday afternoon at the Bruce Hotel. The girls were surprised and grateful to find that lunch was being provided for them and they were allowed the opportunity to talk to a number of the members about their experiences thus far at Duncanrig Secondary School.
The Club were extremely welcoming and a joy to talk to, and the girls, on behalf of all our pupils, would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their kindness and hospitality. Both the East Kilbride and Kittoch Rotary Clubs have shown great support for our school and the Music Department and without their generosity we would not be able to provide the experiences and opportunities for our pupils that we do.
On behalf of all of the pupils at Duncanrig, and the girls who were invited along on Friday, we would like to say thank you to the Rotary Club for their support and continued benevolence.

Due to the quality of their performance and the way they engaged the audience at the recent Scottish Concert Band Festival, our Concert Band now feature on the Scottish Concert Band Festival Website and their Youtube channel to showcase their piece ‘Happy’ .
This is a major accolade to our pupils and they should be extremely proud of themselves. Please click on the links below to enjoy the performance.
On the 18th of May, 6 Duncanrig pupils joined a number of selected pupils from South Lanarkshire schools for an incredible opportunity to see and hear one of the world’s most esteemed classical musicians perform and to work with a selection of talented violinists from St Mary’s Music School, Edinburgh.
The event was an unforgettable experience for our pupils who gained advice and insights to help them with their playing and also for those who got that sought after autograph!!

Our school concert band, directed by the inspiring Mr Shanks, did us proud at the South Lanarkshire Music Showcase at the Hamilton Townhouse last night. They closed the show with a choreographed performance of “Happy” that got the audience dancing in their seats. They were a real credit to both Mr Shanks, who has worked tirelessly to get them to such an advanced standard, and to our school. The band go on to compete in the Scottish Concert Band festival in Perth this Saturday. I am sure you will join me in wishing them well.
Duncanrig was well represented in other acts too. Three of our concert band members also performed an outstanding rendition of “Don’t Rain on My Parade” with the South Lanarkshire Big Band, directed by our guitar instructor Mr Murray. Former pupil Jasmine Reid conducted her school’s Junior choir in an Adele medley.
