YDance Leadership Workshop
There were some important visitors to our school to witness the impact of the YDance programme on pupils in South Lanarkshire schools – particularly at Duncanrig. Aileen Campbell, Scottish Government Minister for Public Health and Sport took time out of her busy schedule to see our dancers in action. She was joined by Linda Fabiani, member of the Scottish Parliament for East Kilbride and Ailsa Wylie, Partnership Manager at sportscotland to witness YDance in action and speak to the young people involved. S4 and S5 Dance Leaders were able to bring to life how their experiences have benefited them and how they hope the programme will have a positive impact on their future and the futures of the next generation of dancers they wish to inspire. Our visitors, along with our Head Teacher Mr Wynne, took part in some Bollywood dancing on the day along with our dance leaders!
YDance is the National agency for Dance in Scotland with its key focus being to provide opportunities to inspire teenage girls to become active through the vehicle of dance. These opportunities include high quality dance experiences such as dance workshops and leadership courses. The Active Schools programme in South Lanarkshire has a strong partnership with YDance and we are delighted with the impact their work has as a result of the programme.
On the day, YDance delivered a leadership workshop to 23 dancers. This workshop introduced them to leadership skills and different styles of dance; at the end of the session the dancers performed a routine to an audience in the school.
Active Schools in South Lanarkshire and Duncanrig Secondary School would like to thank YDance, in particular Kelly Shearer and Gillian Montgomery for all of their hard work and for inspiring so many girls to achieve so much through leadership and dance.
