S3 Business Education pupils were recently involved in a marketing and business challenge set by Mentholatum, a global pharmaceutical and healthcare company based in East Kilbride.
Pupils had been challenged by Mentholatum, one of the school’s longstanding business partners, to prepare an advertising campaign for Deep Heat Rollerball product.
Work on the project began some months ago when Ms Jill Watt, Marketing Director from Mentholatum visited the school to explain to pupils how a real-life marketing campaign would be generated. The team-based challenge was then set.
Having deliberated carefully and collectively on all elements of the brief, pupil teams then pitched their product ideas to a judging panel consisting of Mrs Boyd (Depute Headteacher), and Mrs Taylor (Principal Teacher). The judges had to decide on prizes by applying such criteria as degree of preparation/research; level of appeal to the target market; advertising campaign and overall quality and creativity of each presentation.
Mrs Taylor and Mrs Boyd were very impressed by the level of commitment demonstrated by pupils who enjoyed the real-life aspect of the challenge and demonstrating both their marketing knowledge and creativity.
