Dear Parent and Carer,
You will recently have received notification from the Head of Education that I will be moving on from Duncanrig Secondary School. Last week, I was appointed to the post of Director of Education in South Ayrshire. I will leave Duncanrig with a very heavy heart but this was an opportunity I felt I could not pass up. I have absolutely loved my time in East Kilbride and I am very proud of what our community has achieved over the past four years. Not only have we successfully navigated our way through a global pandemic, we have managed to maintain our focus on ensuring young people’s experiences in school are positive.
When I started at the school in 2018, young people were clear that they wanted to have more of a say in what happened in their school. Over the past few years we have worked to ensure this is the case and our young people have gone on to achieve the LGBT Silver Award and the Rights Respecting School Silver Award during this time – outstanding achievements led by our young people. I am immensely proud of all of our young people and staff and amazed at how they have remained so positive and focused over the past few years of the pandemic. I have no doubt that these young people will continue to impress and will have significant success in the future.
I would also like to thank you for your support over the past four years and in particular during the pandemic. The kindness of parents and carers has made the past two years easier and I am very grateful for all the messages of support and understanding that staff have received during this time. I will be here for a wee while yet and the recruitment process for the new HT will start soon and will involve the Parent Council.
It has been a huge privilege to lead Duncanrig Secondary School for the past four years and I know, with such a special community, it will go on to achieve great success in the future.
